In a video addressed directly to the Serb minority living in Kosovo, Prime Minister Albin Kurti declares that from September 1st to October 31st, Kosovo will provide the opportunity for Kosovo-Serbs to switch their car plates from Serbian to Kosovo plates.

Converting and registering car plates to ‘RKS’ (Republic of Kosovo) ones, Kurti says, “serve the rule of law, order and public security”.

He goes on to say that the licence plates that Serbia has issued are remnants of the Milosevic regime, a "burden" that the Serbs in Kosovo should no longer have to bear.

Alternatively, the transition to Kosovo car plates, Kurti says, removes this burden by enabling "free movement unhindered and without prejudice" throughout Kosovo.

Highlighting that there are incentives for those that make this conversion, Kurti reveals that those who switch their car plates between September and October will be exempt from paying taxes and fees totalling to 5,000 euros.
